How to estimate the value of a phonecard.
Part 1: Common criteria
» Article coming next: How to estimate the value of a phonecard - Personal criteria
There are many characteristics on which phonecard collecting is based on. All they are
result of our preferences and interests, and in the first place applies to ourselves.
But when we have to exchange or sell/buy cards with other collectors you realize there
are common rules to estimate the value of phonecards.
Those rules recognized by all have been accepted as a base for exchange. That sets
the individual requirements of every collector.
Let's define some estimation characteristics and explain their effect on a phonecard's value:
- Card condition - as much the quality is close to the productional as higher is the
value of the card. Meanwhile if cards are bent, without chip (only for chip cards)
or too scratched, they have no value for collectors.
- Card tirage - it affects the value of cards like all other market products.
Small tirage is a sign of a valued card.
- Card type - it defines a collector's interest of card. The most wanted card
types are chip and GPT (magnetic) but there are some exceptions.
- Date of publishing - similar to all other collecting hobbies, older cards
basically have higher value.
Of course all those rules are basic and could be used as a starting point.
Anyway they help you to estimate with big accuracy the value of your phonecards.
Good luck in phonecard collecting!
